Thank you for your interest in our organization! Our goal is to provide a professional home for Marriage and Family Therapists in the greater DC metro area (Maryland, Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Delaware). We welcome all MFTs licensed in the region to apply and receive access to our Facebook group, reduced rates to annual CEU trainings, updates about advocacy efforts, and notifications about other events throughout the year. Students in MFT degree programs may apply for student membership at a reduced rate, and friends of the profession (professionals licensed in allied fields, MFTs in retirement, or others passionate about supporting the MFT profession) may apply for affiliate status, also at a reduced rate.

New and returning* clinical members receive a $25 discount on their first year of membership. Email admin@metromft.com, to request your discount code! Not an MFT, but looking to join as an affiliate member? No discount code required to join at a reduced rate!
CLINICAL MEMBER Referral Discount
MetroMFT wants to serve all MFTs in our service area, and we want to reward members who spread the word! If you recruit a new clinical member, ask them to email admin@metromft.com before they register to get a discount code worth $25 off their first year of membership, and mention your name when they do. When it is time for you to renew, send us an email with the names of anyone you have referred. If they have registered for clinical membership, we will send you a discount code for $25 off of your next clinical membership renewal for every new clinical member you referred in the past year. If you have six or more confirmed clinical member referrals in a year, your renewal is free!
* A "returning" clinical member is a former clinical member whose membership has lapsed and has been ineligible for benefits for a minimum of 12 months.
STuDENT MEMBER SPONSORSHIP
Thank you for your interest in the MetroMFT Student Membership Sponsorship Program! This current application is for Fall 2026 Enrollment and represents the launch of this pilot program. The program will support 1 year of MetroMFT membership for approximately 20 sponsored student members.
Typically students are asked to pay $25/year for their membership. This program eliminates that cost.

Application Window: Oct 15, 2026 through October 22, 2026. Applications will close at 11:59pm.
The purpose for the program is to attract and retain students into MetroMFT. Eligibility is based on status as a student at an LGMFT-qualified institution. Sponsorship will be evaluated in the order applications are received until all 20 slots are filled. The program is open to students enrolled in LGMFT-qualifying programs and other MFT-related graduate programs. Priority consideration will be given to students and programs that serve Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Delaware.
Once accepted, students will be given a 1 year membership to MetroMFT. If a student’s sponsorship-funded membership expires while they are still enrolled in their graduate program, they are welcome to reapply during the next enrollment period. Upon graduation from an LGMFT-qualifying program or whenever their 1 year membership expires and they are no longer a student, previously sponsored students will be asked to pay the Clinical Member fee to continue on as a MetroMFT member.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for and maintain a sponsored student membership, participants must meet the following requirements:

Currently enrolled in an LGMFT-qualifying or MFT-related graduate program

In good academic standing (evidenced by providing an unofficial transcript)

Able to fulfill the volunteer activity requirements stated below.
Ongoing Membership Requirements
Sponsored student members are expected to remain active contributors to the MetroMFT community. Continued sponsorship is contingent on fulfilling the following:

Complete at least one volunteer activity per semester (fall/winter and spring/summer) and submit information about your completed activity via the Volunteer Activity Report form.

Conference Student Volunteering |
Assist with the MetroMFT annual Fall conference. Estimated commitment: 6–8 hours one day. |

BOPCAT Meeting Attendance |
Attend virtual BOBCAT meetings (approximately 1 hour) and report back notes and key takeaways to Advocacy Chair at advocacy@metromft.com. Meetings are held monthly on Fridays at 1apm. |

UMD Collaborative Series |
Attend and participate in the UMD Collaborative Series meetings. Announce upcoming MetroMFT events at these meetings using a prepared slide and brief verbal presentation. |

Peer Consultation Group |
Attend the monthly MetroMFT peer consultation group and take notes for distribution. Email notes to admin@metromft.com |

Networking Event Support |
Assist Operations or Events Leads on-site at MetroMFT networking events. Responsibilities include logistics support, taking photographs, and submitting photos with a written event summary to Member-At-Large. |

Social Media (Facebook) |
Contribute to MetroMFT's Facebook presence through content engagement, posting, or other social media support activities. |
